Outfit Friday!

The forecast for today was HOT! But I didn't want to believe it. It's fall isn't it!? (I'm going to be regretting this in a few months...)

I really wanted to wear a sweater dress with some cable knit tights and boots but it's supposed to be like 90, so I compromised.

I went with a knit dress I just got (love!) and a cardigan (that you guys have seen already. I seriously wear the same 3 cardigans all the time). I really think some wine colored tights would have made this outfit but I just couldn't do it with the heat.

Dress - work, Cardigan - J Crew, Shoes - Jessica Simpson
Hahah - my head tilt cracks me up!

This dress is pretty body-con so I definitely had to whip out some spanx - I'm used to my full-skirted dresses that cover a multitude of sins ;)

Tonight it is supposed to get colder so maybe I will wear my tights then!

On another note, I think I'm suffering from a minor lace addiction. After this dress, I purchased some lace tights, a lace-overlay skirt, and a lace top. Hmm.

Hope you have a good weekend!

Measuring vs. Feeling

On Sunday, I was in a really bad mood. I couldn't think of anything I wanted to do at all. So, I thought to myself: what is the best way to deal with this? I thought, it would be nice to go for a run.

I haven't been running in a really long time - over 6 months. My knee issues took all the fun out of it. But on Sunday, it felt like the right thing to do, so I did it. I left my gadgets, except my music, behind. No HRM. No timer to measure my walking and running intervals. No plotted route.

It was hard and uncomfortable. I felt like my heart was coming out of my chest, my stomach was exploding, and my skin was so itchy. But, it felt good to sweat out all that bad mood.

I just ran until it was too much and then walked until I felt like I could run again. I ran down which ever street looked interesting. I made my way back home.

It was a very different experience listening to my body rather than pushing it one way or another because my training plan says so. Or because the treadmill speed says so. Or because my watch says so.

The more I thought about the difference in the experience, the more it became clear how "measurement" thinking is prevalent throughout our lives.

Grades/Test Scores vs. Real Learning
Resume vs. Capability
Home Size/Price vs. Home Character/Function (who needs all that space anyway!)

All those measurements become just a way to compare yourself to the Joneses or to stress out about.

In my own life I have stressed so much on my numbers:

Scale Weight vs. How I Feel in My Skin
Calories/points/grams vs. Fullness or Taste
Miles/Minutes/Calories Burned vs. the Feeling of Movement
Clothing Size vs. How the Clothing Looks

Even though numbers can be important, if you fill your life with them to the point that you can't see or feel life itself, then there is a problem. Sometimes you just have to get out of your head and take things as they are - no over-thinking required.

Fashion Friday (on Sunday) :)

On Friday, I played dress up again for our work's "Fashion Fridays." I originally was planning on wearing a new skirt and some tights but they were also in the black ranges like my last two outfits, so I thought I would change it up a bit.

The weather here has been kinda funky, so I never really know if it's going to be hot or cold.

Anyway, I decided to "fall up" my outfit by adding some tights.

I didn't really feel like this outfit was 100% me, unlike the last two, but it's not like it's going to kill me to wear something that is outside of my comfort zone or outside of what I view as my style.

I was excited to wear this outfit and I got a few compliments at work, which usually doesn't happen, so that was nice. Unfortunately though, they didn't have time to do pictures on Friday and I was disappointed. So I had my boyfriend snap one before we went out to dinner with some friends.

Dress - Tulle from work, caplet sweater - Target, belt - sample from work, tights - F21, shoes - thrifted
I used to wear these shoes a lot in college - they have about 2 inch heels and they are super comfortable but I think they are kinda frumpy. On Friday I liked them with this outfit though!

You can't really see this belt but it is crochet with a leaf type clasp and I like it a lot with this dress. The tights are cable knit too.

Hope you've had a good weekend!

Fashion Friday!

This morning I spent a lot of time trying this on with that and so forth. Usually I don't do this - I just grab a dress and go.

I actually really liked spending some time getting ready; it made me feel like I was playing dress up!

I was not impressed however, when the black shirt I wanted to wear got covered in dry shampoo. I guess I shouldn't be so lazy with the hair washing :)

Cardigan - J. Crew, Shirt - American Apparel, Skirt - work, Tights - Assets for Target, Hair Flowers - F21, Heels - Oh... Deer!

My friends are coming in town for the weekend and I am super excited!!!

Happy Friday everyone!

Outfit Friday

At work they have started a thing where we have the option of getting our outfit pictures taken by one of our professional photographers each Friday. The one stipulation is that we have to wear something from our company - not too hard.

Anyway, I thought I would post them here, since I was intending on posting my outfits to start with a while ago.

dress - from work, cardi - J. Crew, shoes - LAMB, necklace - made for me by my bff, dog - Italian greyhound

My first impression of this picture was just not good. Even though I loved my outfit this morning, and thought I looked great - I feel gorgeous in this outfit and that's really all that matters.
