On Handling Things {Inspiring Words}

Eze-la-village

"Life gives us what we can handle,
& we can handle what life gives us."

To me this quote is all about strength and knowing that things aren't too much. That we will all be okay.

The other night on the Virtual Book Club chat about Spirit Junkie, we were talking about how people come into our lives for a reason, and by thinking of them like that - as "assignments" - and thinking of what we can learn from things, rather than just trying to cope with them, we are in a much more positive situation.

I talk a lot about how mindset can really affect your happiness and it is true. Another sentiment mentioned from the book was that pain is caused by our thoughts.

Now when I am feeling down and hurt, I try and remember that quote - that I can handle it - and by thinking negatively, I am only causing myself pain.

What do you think about this? I thought the book club chat was awesome though! Some really great ideas floating around!

YES! This is so true. I used to hear this all the time before and rejected the notion. I didn't want to consider the fact that some people in our lives are just temporary. I can tell you from personal experience - there are some people that are just there for the moment. Looking back, you can tell they were placed into your lives for that reason, but they aren't necessarily meant to stay (especially in terms of love relationships). I once had a best friend that I spoke to daily for nearly two years. When push came to shove, our relationship ended, and I realized that he was just there to see me through some bad times.

I could write a book on this subject, obviously! So glad you brought this up in your post today, and it sounds like virtual book club was a success.

PS: Thanks for your comment on my blog yesterday - I'm glad there are others out there who can relate. Keep on bloggin' lady. I'm loving it.

elle, love that you got some great nuggets from the chat. i thought it was an inspiring one as well!

it does help to think about those pieces: why is someone in our lives, and what are we doing to cause ourselves pain. makes it hard to stay stuck.

Yes! There are so many thing that have happened in my life in the past few years that were just placed so perfectly, I cannot deny that in some way they had to be meant to happen. It's crazy!

And thank you so much, I love your blog as well! :)
